The study of historic rural landscape uses different descriptive tools: documents, prints, maps, artworks. This paper aims to retrace the sardinian rural landscape description through cartography, cadastre, photography and artworks produced in Sardinia in the modern age. The retabli (altarpieces) of Maestro di Castelsardo (XV-XVI) are models of artwork that include of elements of the landscape. The cabrei from XVI to XIX century allow to study the aristocratic farms and the human settlement. Many prints and maps represent the urban agriculture around the city of Cagliari in the Modern age. The cadastre describes the land reforming effects in the sardinian rural landscape in XIX century.
