The administrative and bureaucratic language in the area of Teramo (Abruzzi) between the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries: state of studies, new acquisitions, work in progress In a wider research aimed at framing the dynamics of Italianization occurred in the Abruzzi in the early modern age through the analysis of non-literary texts, the article focuses on the language of the written varieties in the administrative and bureaucratic field in the area of Teramo between the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries. The paper is divided into three parts. The first outlines the state of the linguistic studies about Abruzzo domain and reports the results of the post-Nineties surveys about the non-literary production between late-medieval and early modern age, close to the Renaissance codification. The second one illustrates the acquisition of document archives in Teramo domain (over 2650 administrative-bureaucratic handwritten papers, mostly unpublished, such as: tax records, council minutes, legislative texts) for the period 1550-1650 and accounts for the work in progress about such documents. The last part contains a first study, limited to the lexicon, of the Statutes of Campli (1575), a feud belonging to the Farnese States of Abruzzo, ruled by Margherita d'Austria (1522-1586). The analysis is conducted with the intention to highlight the coexistence of learned boosts and local resistances and show the remarkable variability characterizing the statutory documents.
