In this article we generalize to polyatomic gases the moment closure of the relativistic Anderson-Witting model proposed by Cercignani and Kremer in the monoatomic case, that uses the four-velocity in the Landau-Lifshitz description. A moment model is derived and compared with that recently proposed by Pennisi and Ruggeri using a variant of the Anderson-Witting model in an Eckart frame, obtaining that the balance equations and the collision term are equivalent up to first order with respect to equilibrium.

Abstract

In this article we generalize to polyatomic gases the moment closure of the relativistic Anderson-Witting model proposed by Cercignani and Kremer in the monoatomic case, that uses the four-velocity in the Landau-Lifshitz description. A moment model is derived and compared with that recently proposed by Pennisi and Ruggeri using a variant of the Anderson-Witting model in an Eckart frame, obtaining that the balance equations and the collision term are equivalent up to first order with respect to equilibrium.
