After noting the inadequacy of the only direct intervention of the State for the protection of vulnerable subjects, the paper examines some manifestations of the so-called social market economy, especially in the financial sector and, in particular, in the insurance sector. It is therefore highlighted how the market – especially regulated – can, under certain conditions, constitute a valuable resource for the protection of the vulnerable person, also considering the current social sustainability policies adopted within it.
