La città medievale tra la scala geografica e la dimensione costruttiva = The Medieval City between the Geographical Scale and the Constructive Dimension

Enrico Guidoni’s research has explored numerous aspects of urban planning in the Middle Ages, specifying or identifying for the first time principles and models, then periodizations, which have renewed the methods of reading urban contexts. Guidoni has explored the design technique, as the conscious application of executive thoughts: one of the keys to understanding the achievements that is still the backbone of many European urban realities. The design thinking of those who commissioned the foundations of cities in the Middle Ages is reflected in the documentation and geometric and technical evidence still detectable in the field. The architects of the projects, with their techniques, have defined complex executive procedures and often substantiated by artistic intentions. This contribution traces, in a brief synthesis, some of the main themes underlying the medieval design technique.

La ricerca di Enrico Guidoni ha esplorato numerosi aspetti del fare urbanistica nel medioevo precisando o individuando per la prima volta principi e modelli, quindi periodizzazioni, che hanno rinnovato i metodi di lettura dei contesti urbani. Guidoni ha esplorato la tecnica progettuale, intesa come cosciente applicazione di pensieri esecutivi: una delle chiavi di lettura delle realizzazioni ancora forma portante di molte realtà urbane europee. Il pensiero progettuale di chi nel medioevo commissionava le fondazioni delle città traspare dalla documentazione e dalle evidenze geometriche e tecniche ancora rilevabili sul campo. Gli artefici dei progetti, con le loro tecniche, hanno definito procedimenti esecutivi complessi e spesso sostanziati da intenzioni artistiche. Il presente contributo ripercorre, in una breve sintesi, alcuni dei principali temi alla base della tecnica progettuale medievale.
